EES registration for children is now part of every family trip into the Schengen area, but the rules soften for young kids: under-12s give a facial photo and skip fingerprints, while anyone aged 12 and over is fingerprinted like an adult. The Entry\/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026.<\/strong> This guide walks parents through what happens at the kiosk, who gets fingerprinted, what to do with a pram, and how school groups are handled.<\/p>\n

TL;DR:<\/strong> At the border, children under 12 have their passport scanned and a facial image taken, but no fingerprints. Children aged 12 and over give four fingerprints plus a photo, exactly like adults.
