Why ETIAS does not apply to Greenland or the Faroe Islands

Neither territory is part of the Schengen area, and ETIAS is a Schengen-only requirement. Greenland pulled out of the European Economic Community in 1985, and the Faroe Islands never joined at all. Both remain within the Kingdom of Denmark for defence and foreign affairs, but they set their own rules on trade, fishing and, crucially for travellers, border entry.
